Those looking for Sherlock season 4 spoilers should know that they are better off waiting for the show to air because showrunner Steven Moffat surely has a good way of keeping things cryptic.
The release date, however, could not be more obvious because the series continues to follow its tradition of being a three-part season every couple of years, and so for the fourth part.
Nevertheless, a standalone Christmas special is set on the said holiday this year. While the main cast, which includes Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, will be present, the setting is in Victorian London.
Hence, the continuation of the present day Sherlock will only unravel itself come 2016. The most fanatics will get would be some vague spills from Steven Moffat in an interview featured by Entertainment Weekly.
He starts by going back to the progression of the past seasons: where the first is about the start of the characters' friendship; the second was on "formative stages, the love and fear and loss and all that"; the third dwelt on the lighter days, with bonding with his pal and that friend's wife.
Consequently, season 4 is going to revolve around consequences. Nevertheless, it will still be a mix of "hilarious and exhilarating days, but some days it's going to be bloody frightening."
An important clue Moffat has given about the season is that it will make fans beg for series 5. "We're certainly going to put them through the mill. It's going to be more of an emotional upheaval."
Series 3 closed with Moriarty's taped message, which supporters would want explained in the continuation.
It is possible that Moffat used this to conceal another angle as he says, "there are questions coming to questions nobody has asked. There's one thing that no one has really brought up."
What could these questions for Sherlock Season 4 be? The show is yet to be written so viewers should be watchful for new updates that could come anytime within 2 years.
