Is Cortana the best digital assistant around? Microsoft says yes and will be available on Android later in 2015

Microsoft has debated over and over whether to share its marvelous digital assistant to Android. The answer is a resounding yes. In the world of digital assistants, iOS has siri, Android has Google Now and Windows 8.1 mobile devices have Cortana.

Cortana by Microsoft is considered the best digital assistany around by many. They always compare it with the powerful Google Now but most critics end up choosing Cortana. Cortana is extremely popular with gamers too.

They find her valuable advice always timely and helpful. Not only will Cortana be making the leap to desktops but they will also become a standalone app on Apple and Android devices later this year. The reason Microsoft is sharing one of the best features of their phone to competing platforms is at the end of the day they just want more people using Microsoft services. It's a smart move and makes all the sense in the world.

Eric Horvitz, the managing director of Microsoft research, said in an interview with Reuters: " We're defining the competitive landscape...of who can provide the most supportive services that makes life easier, keep track of things, that complement human memory in a way that helps us get things done." They may not be where his vision is at currently but they are definitely headed in the right direction.

All the digital assistants have their strong points and weak points. This is where Microsoft's Cortana comes into play. It fills the gaps where one is lacking. The option to use Cortana on Android will be available to the market soon and this gives the users freedom to select their own digital assistant. Technology is taking us to places we've never been to and who knows maybe one day Cortana will be as essential as having a smartphone.
