Jason Sudeikis - who was engaging in "Were the Millers" (2013) and amusing in the Horrible Bosses flicks - may play the lead role in the upcoming "Fletcher" reboot.
Known to portray roles with sufficient amount of brio, honed by years of experience as a comedy guy, Jason Sudeikis once disclosed he gets a kick out of playing people you'd normally dislike. In "We're the Millers," though, he played a character audiences came to love - a weed dealer who teams up with Emma Roberts, Will Poulter and Jennifer Aniston's stripper-character, whom he develops an affinity for.
Given his tried-and-tested ease in situational comedy situations, Sudeikis is an interesting choice to play the lead role in a "Fletcher" reboot. While he has shown that he can make the most of a script, the overall outcome and response to the planned sequel will still be hinged on the creative team that will be commissioned for the film project. As of this date, producers have reportedly met with Sudeikis as well as with writers for the reboot. It's a movie with heart, so movie insiders and "Fletcher" fans look forward to the project's take-off.
Sudeikis was the preference of Warner Brothers to play the role played by Chevy Chase in the 1985 and 1989 films, a wisecracking investigative reporter named Irwin Fletcher. The original movie material was based on the novels of award-winning crime fiction writer Gregory McDonald. The Chevy Chase movie was a huge success, prompting producers to discuss a sequel long ago. Years ago, other studios had mulled over producing a Fletcher reboot/remake, but such a project never came to fruition.
Of late, rights to the Fletch franchise has shifted from Warner Bros. Pictures to Relativity Studios and Boies/Schiller Film Group.
In interviews with media, Jason Sudeikis has expressed his belief in the character, and the vast material that the creative team can work on. It's more than just redoing a great Chevy Chase film, then, he opined. It's a movie that has shaped how he grew up and who he wanted to be when he grew up, The Saturday Night Live alumnus said. The next question on movie enthusiasts' minds is, is the modern-day Irwin Fletcher all set to win hearts via the Fletcher reboot?
