Daredevil was just about as bit a hit as a superhero TV show could be. It was universally loved, insanely popular, and most importantly it had some incredible fight scenes, a wicked new costume for the Man Without Fear, and an incredible performance by Vincent D'Onofrio as the Kingpin.
So it's not at all surprising that Daredevil was renewed for a second season. But this could have huge ramifications for the other Marvel series planning on coming to Netflix- AKA Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the Defenders. Specifically- because Daredevil's second season has already been confirmed by Marvel to run in 2016.
Marvel already has AKA Jessica Jones set to premiere sometime later this year on Netflix, while Luke Cage is premiering in 2016. But if Daredevil premieres that same year, it may delay Iron Fist and the Defenders- even moreso if the shows premiering after Daredevil also get a second season. Just when are we going to see the Defenders, anyway.
Forbes argues the same thing- that this essentially destroys what we assumed Marvel's Netflix schedule looks like, and makes the future of Marvel's Defenders plan look nothing like we expect when the shows were first announced.
And what's happening on the second season, exactly? Two obvious choices stand out- the Hand, the evil ninja clan hinted at in the first season of Daredevil, and Bullseye, the classic Daredevil villain who's also been rumored for an appearance. According to Bustle, Bullseye's the more likely option, given a sniper in an earlier episode with a playing card on his person- a subtle easter egg towards Bullseye.
As well, showrunner Steven S. DeKnight spoke openly about including Bullseye, saying: "there are so many stories to tell. The Hand, Elektra, Bullseye... with a 13-episode arc you don't have to rush it; you can explore. That's not to say we are going to do Bullseye and Elektra, but it's on the radar."
