ABC is planning to revive "The Muppet Show" for a primetime television return with a 'more adult' theme that will explore the personal lives of Kermit the frog and other Muppets. Big Bang Theory co-creator Bill Prady and Anger Management writer-producer Bob Kushell will dig deeper on the issues of the characters and use the mockumentary style for the show. Will Kermit and Miss Piggy finally end up together in the show for good?
"The Muppet Show" is set to be revived with a much adult theme compared to its previous versions. Bill Prady is currently writing a pilot script with adult storylines that will cover the casts' personal lives. ABC said the return of the Muppets in primetime will tackle the characters' relationships both at home and at work, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants, and desires. The show will also be using the mockumentary style popularized by "The Office."
One adult aspect that the new "Muppet Show" will tackle is romance. Fans of the show are familiar with the on and off relationship of Kermit and Miss Piggy. One way to really tell their story in a grown-up manner is by elaborating their romantic affair with each other and maybe integrating the idea of love triangles.
A report however, found ABC's plan for "The Muppet Show" a little bit contradicting to the show's target audience. The Muppets is known for being a family-friendly show and while ABC plans to still make the new "Muppets" a series for all ages, the adult concept will just defeat that plan."
The original "The Muppet Show" TV program aired from 1976-1981. The popularity of the characters created by Jim Henson soared leading to a series of movies. Disney Channel housed the last television show of the Muppets in 2000.
Bill Prady will once again try to revive "The Muppet Show" with ABC and this time will take on an adult theme, focusing on the personal lives of the famous Muppets. Whether Kermit the frog and Miss Piggy will be together officially is still uncertain. Reactions towards the Prady and ABC plans are varied since some says that the adult-themed "Muppets show" just won't be apt for its target audience.
