Doctor Who Season 9 returns to television with a dramatic season opener that has star Peter Capaldi's Time Lord contemplating to murder a child.
The Mirror leaked the darkest plot of the series stating that the opening is based on a line from Tom Baker's Doctor in Genesis of the Daleks 40 years ago.
The Doctor asked then, "If someone who knew the future pointed out a child to you and told you that child would grow up totally evil, to be a ruthless dictator who would destroy millions of lives, could you then kill that child?"
In the new series the 12th Doctor faces the same dilemma when he meets a younger version of his arch-enemy Davros in the Tardis battlefield. Davros created the Daleks.
The dictator captures the Time Lord, and returns to Skaro, the Dalek planet to save the evil machines.
Capaldi's time-travelling Doctor Who and Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) will then battle with a new antennae-bearing, glowing red-brained monster.
Although the series starts off with a dark plot, the show's executive producer and lead writer Steven Moffat claims he has actually made the character of the Doctor more light-hearted.
"I'm writing quite funny this year. Peter magnifies anything dark. So I'm pushing him the other way. He's also got a Scottish gloom about him," says Moffat.
He adds, "As ever, Doctor Who is a combination of complete daft silliness and loads of people getting slaughtered in the early evening."
Meanwhile the BBC teased about Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams appearing in the 9th season of Doctor Who.
In an interview with The Express Williams would neither confirm nor deny if her role on the series would be a younger Clara or a different personal altogether, and whether hers would a bad or good character. Williams does share her thoughts on how she would affect Doctor Who, "She does put the Doctor to the test and it's sort of a dynamic that we haven't seen before."
Doctor Who Season 9 will have its premiere this autumn on BBC America.
