Disney's "Tron" movie franchise details have been scarce in a few years due to the disappointment brought about by the "Tron : Legacy" returns of $400 million only, despite the strategic and heavy exposure to the audience. The hope for a sequel was almost lost until Olivia Wilde broke the silence in an interview held at the recent Tribeca Film Festival.
Despite the rumors of the movie being tossed away from being renewed for a sequel due to its poor returns, Olivia said it was never the problem. "The delay has only ever been story, finding the right story. It hasn't been anything else. There's never been a time where we wanted to go and then schedules got in the way. It's only been like, 'That's not the right story.'" Wilde, the actress who played as Quorra, the artificial intelligence-based character, said.
"So, in the past year, the right story kind of came together and we felt, 'Oh, this actually - this might be the right one to tell.' And, you know, there's still a lot to be done before it could actually happen, but the fact that there's a goal of this year to start is really exciting." She added.
Kosinski to return to direct the sequel? Shooting starts on October
With one of the movie characters' confirmation that the film will surely proceed, the next question in line are who will be returning for the sequel. According to ComicBook.com, Joseph Kosinski will be returning to direct the sequel and Garrett Hedlund will reprise his role as well.
"Tron 3 delivers on the promise of Tron: Legacy, particularly its final scenes." Kosinsky said back in 2013. "There's a big clue there as to where we'll go with the next one. There are also some characters we establish at the beginning of Tron: Legacy who have a much larger role in Tron 3." Does this mean Quorra will be the center of the sequel?
Production is slated to start on October until February 2016. Do you think a third film in the "Tron" franchise will be successful? Sound off below! Keep checking back for more movie updates.
