"Silent Hills" could be in danger of being canceled after news came out that prospective director Guillermo Del Toro may have indicated that he is no longer part of the project.
Del Toro commented on the status of the game at a recent San Francisco Film Society event. According to Del Toro, the planned game is "not gonna happen," according to Kotaku. The director would have worked together with Japanese video game designer Hideo Kojima on the project.
Del Toro's comments should not be taken as official word on the status of the game, but it's difficult to assume that the project is going smoothly if the director himself is indicating that it may not be happening. Konami, the company behind the movie, could still search for a new director and move forward with the project, but it appears as though other complications may prevent it.
Kojima may also be opting out of the project especially given his already strained relationship with Konami, according to Gamespot. Kojima is reportedly expected to leave Konami after "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" is released in September.
Another name linked to the "Silent Hills" project has also commented on the status of the game. Norman Reedus, the star of the game, has said that he is "super bummed" about the news concerning Del Toro and his comments also seem to indicate that the project may be being scrapped completely, according to Game Informer.
"P.T.," the teaser for the game is also set to be taken out of the Playstation Store. The teaser was well-received when it was initially released, but now it appears as though the excitement gained by it may ultimately be for naught.
Konami has not yet released any official word on the status of the game or on the status of Del Toro.
