After confirmation that Hideo Kojima, one of the influential persons in the creation of the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and the entire MGS franchise, will leave Konami, a slew of controversies suddenly began barging in. News of Kojima's departure from the game company after the release of Metal Gear Solid V was a shocker for many but just before this topic got old, another controversy again puts the creator of Solid Snake into the limelight.
Sergio Canaverro, an Italian surgeon and proponent for head transplants suddenly came out of nowhere claiming that his likeness was "copied" digitally on the new Metal Gear Solid game. The disgruntled doctor called on his rights that his body is not for sale and should not be used without his consent. Coming from a person who vehemently pushes exploration on head transplant operations, Konami, if rumors are true, had beaten him to the punch by successfully transplanting his head on to another person, digitally.
Though Hideo Kojima denied that Dr. Canaverro was indeed the source of the surgeon in Metal Gear Solid V, the likeness of the two personages are remarkable.
This lead to other controversies Dr. Canaverro is just seeking fame through controversy or to more outlandish notions that Dr. Canaverro and his head transplant research is a huge marketing tool created by Konami or more precisely Kojima. Though the idea was promptly denied by the doctor, supposed evidences that seemingly point to this conclusion are rampant over the internet.
Similar faces
The face of Dr. Sergio Canaverro is strikingly similar to a character in Metal Gear Solid V. The rumor was further fueled by the said doctor's eerie, almost "mad scientist" pose.
Similar Codenames and Acronyms
A list of in-game codenames and acronyms are controversially similar to real life acronyms and codes used by Dr. Canaverro on his research and published articles. One particular name is Gemini, which is the surgeon's codename for the transplant and incidentally the name of a character in Metal Gear Solid with cybernetic heads.
As Kojima will exit the Metal Gear Solid franchise after the release of MSG V, many are wondering whether the revered stealth genre game will continue on its legacy of being one of the best gaming franchise ever.
