Players are looking forward to the standalone prequel DLC of the first Wolfenstein: The New Order, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, which is set to be released in May. Developer MachineGames confirms that Wolfentein: The Old Blood digital release will be on May 5 while the retail release will be on May 15. Although of the same series, The Old Blood will have a different storyline from The New Order.
After the release of Wolfenstein: The New Order back in May 2014, the game earned critical acclaim and has become a favourite for many gamers. MachineGames then decided to create a standalone follow-up in their latest, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. Players who haven't played the first entry in the series would be thrilled to know that they do not need to know the story of The New Order in order to understand The Old Blood. Being a month away from its launch, it is best to know now what's in store in Wolfenstein: The Old Blood.
First of all, the game is a prequel of The New Order set in 1946 as opposed to The New Order's 1960s setting. The Old Blood will have a story of its own with new characters and content. Unlike the knife wielded by the main character in The New Order, The Old Blood protagonist will have a new melee weapon in the form of a metal pipe. The pipe will not only take down enemies, it can also be used for climbing and breaking walls. The Old Blood will not have any spoilers regarding The New Order for those who haven't played the first game yet.
However, The Old Blood is not completely separate from The New Order. For instance, the main protagonist would still be B.J. Blazkowicz and more importantly, the storyline of The Old Blood leads up to the assault mission that sets off in The New Order.
The Old Blood will have a storyline divided into two parts, as revealed by MachineGames' executive producer Jerk Gustafsson. The first part is Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves while the second part is The Dark Secrets of Helga von Schabbs.
Xbox One, PS4, and PC users can now pre-order the standalone DLC Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. Xbox One users can pre-download the game and directly play it when it unlocks at 12:01 EST on May 5. Retail version of the game will not be available until May 15.
