Mortal Kombat X is set to release a playable character in Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees. Mortal Kombat X developer NetherRealm Studios confirmed the DLC announcement during Kombat Kast last Thursday, April 23.
The mass murdering psychopath will be unlocked as DLC for those that purchased the Kombat Pack DLC Collection on May 5th. The general public will have an option of a separate purchase of DLC and will have access to the DLC Jason Voorhees one week later.
Publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment previously gave its nod to use Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy Krueger as DLC in Mortal Kombat 9. Following that trend, Warner Bros has approved once again to make use of characters from the cinema-verse. Friday The 13th's Jason Voorhees and Predator are additional cinema characters set to appear in their own Mortal Kombat X DLC.
While the DLC content can be purchased in order to have full access, players are also welcome to try out the different playable content without having to purchase them. In the weeks prior to the official Mortal Kombat X April 14 release date, Mortal Kombat director Ed Boon spoke about the special towers accessible in-game.
According to Boone, the event tower called the Premiere tower will be converted to the Jason Tower when Jason is slated to be released. Boon states that it "gives players a taste of what the character is like to play". No details on when these special towers will pop up or how long these said events will last, but it looks to be a likely sales pitch strategy to get players interested in unlocking the whole content.
Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees will be available by May 5th. Mortal Kombat X DLC for Predator, as well as the two Klassic Packs release dates is yet to be announced. Mortal Kombat X is currently available for Microsoft Windows, PS4 and Xbox One. PS3 and Xbox 360 editions are slated for release later this year.
