ZenBook Pro UX501, New MacBook Pro Challenger; Features include 4K display, 15-inch screen and high performance engine

By

ZenBook Pro UX501 will rival with the New MacBook Pro with its top notch performance that Asus is known for. It's main attraction is the 4k display, 15 inch screen, high performance engine, comparable design and boasts more for less.

Display

ZenBook Pro UX501 features 15.6" screen with 4K technology to compete with Apples's New Retina display. This could mean 1-0 in the Asus VS Apple match because 4K is twice as good as Retina. In fact, some Mac users also aspire to use 4K in their units through device manipulation although there were earlier reports that MacBook isn't able to power 4K. Apple could still be investigating as their site haven't acknowledge this alleged capability or better yet, they will come up with a Retina upgrade or they may already have. The sophistication challenge set by Apple's design legacy doesn't stop in the display though.

Design

Almost all of Mac users were attracted initially by its designs. This reputation continues with all its products such as the MacBook range. Just like Dell, Asus was able to produce a compact and sleek machine with its "spun metal" design in the latest ZenBook. It's not necessarily as thin as the new MacBook Pro but close enough. It's also a bit heavier with approximately .21 kg difference. More than visual aesthetics, most professionals are concerned with device performance.

Performance

The ZenBook Pro UX501 is powered by quad core Intel Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M with 2G/4G GDDR5 VRAM and expandable memory up to 16GB. Its battery is a great addition with up to 6.2 hours of use.

The only thing uncertain for now is if it's going to be as durable if not better than the MacBook Pro. Asus tends to have some weak points in the hardware and materials parts. There are also reports that its new unit has a bendable chassis and screen with unstable track pad although, this may be a factory defect for a few units and not for all.

Overall, this device is a pretty good alternative to the new MacBook Pro for those who are not Apple loyalists. Considering performance and price, ZenBook Pro UX501 can put up a good fight.
