'Halo 5: Guardians' cover art hints at possible makeup of co-op teams in the game

A recent Alternate Reality Game or ARG from "Halo 5: Guardians" developer 343 Industries has given insight into just who the characters in the game will be, and whose side they will be on. Fans initially had to put together small bits and pieces of what turned out to be a new image for the game via the Alternate Reality Game similar to how people would solve a puzzle.

The pieces of the puzzle were strewn all over the Internet with some of them showing up in the social media sites for both Xbox and Microsoft and even in the game's official website. The pieced together image, as it turns out, is one showing both Spartan Jameson Locke and Master Chief engaged in their now trademark face-off.

Apart from the two well-known characters of the "Halo" universe, there are others featured in the poster who may be more indicative of what is to come in the newest game from the franchise, according to Gamerant. Four characters each appear underneath both Master Chief and Spartan Jameson Locke, and they could be the ones who may be the playable characters for the planned co-op campaign mode for "Halo 5: Guardians."

One of the teams appears to be the group of Spartans under Master Chief's command. This team looks to be made up of Frederic-104, John-117, Kelly-087, and Linda-058. It's worth noting that these are the same characters who were part of the Blue Team seen in the "Halo: Escalation" comics, according to Inquistr.

Unfortunately, it is a bit more difficult to identify the opposing group, but fans will probably more know about them when more details are released about the game. Both Master Chief and Spartan Jameson Locke are confirmed to be playable character in "Halo 5: Guardians," according to Gamespot. As for the other characters, there is no official word out on whether they too will be fully playable.

"Halo 5: Guardians" will be released on October 27.
