Samsung will release the Gear VR headset for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to stores beginning May 15.

Reports on the announcement of the availability of the world of virtual reality to Galaxy smartphone owners came with the price tag of $249.99 on a pre-order basis from Best Buy .

The new Samsung Gear VR will also be available on Samsung on May 8 and in retail outlets by May 15 with demonstrations for its use.

The Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition is compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge cell phones and promises stunning visuals while playing games, watching videos, or viewing photos on a panoramic 3D, 360-degrees view.

The touch controls also allows simple operation and Micro USB port than enables easy connection of compatible android virtual reality accessories.

The Gear VR comes in white color and measures 4.1 inches x 8.49 inches x 8.76 inches and weighs 1 pound.

Samsung's Milk VR immerses users in 360-degree videos from channels in music, sports, action, lifestyle, from entertainment companies and networks such as GE, Matador, Refinery29, Spike Digital Entertainment, and others. The videos are available on both Instant Play (adaptive streaming) and Best Quality (download for highest quality available).

A previous version of the Gear VR which immerses the user in a 360-degree video environment worked only with the Galaxy Note 4.

The new Samsung Gear VR headset is powered by Oculus VR, the 3D gaming technology company, and will provide users with virtual reality experiences for games such as Temple Run, Oculus 360 tours, and entertainment like Cirque du Soleil Zarkana, among other content.
