Hints of Kingdom Hearts 3 being developed for smartphones have been teased to the media, along with the announcement of the video game's presentation at the Disney D23 Expo fan event in Japan in November 6 to 8.
Gematsu reports this development direction was confirmed by Square Enix artist and Kingdom Hearts 3 director Tetsuya Nomura saying in a Famitsu magazine interview, "We have some interesting things planned. There will be Kingdom Hearts 3 news, and various things, I think. Development on Kingdom Hearts 3 is going smoothly, but there will also be new announcements connected to it. As one of those new announcements, I think we should be able to announce a smartphone-specific development for the series in short order."
The Kingdom Hearts 3 video game is expected to be developed by Square Enix for the Play Station 4 and Xbox One. This new direction will take Sora and his Disney World pals straight to possibly both iOS and Android devices.
Rumors of the upcoming smartphone platform for Kingdom Hearts 3 has earlier circulated with the leak of a concept art supposedly for use on the mobile game which showed Disney characters from Frozen and Star Wars joining Sora. The project was believed to had been shelved, but Nomura's statement points otherwise.
Design and Trends also reported that a former "Star Wars 1313" engineer has been assigned to work on Kingdom Hearts 3 leading fans to believe that a Star Wars World will be part of the new video game.
The highly anticipated release of the Disney-Square Enix video game in 2016 has caused a flurry of excitement among fans, even consistently topping the most wanted video game list in Japan's Famitsu magazine.
Kingdom Hearts 3 continues to feature an older Sora going on adventures with Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck and other Disney characters.
