The anticipation for the Microsoft HoloLens release this year alongside Windows 10 is high that people can't stop talking about it.
A recent video shows early prototypes of the Microsoft HoloLens device, which appears to have rekindled people's interest in it.
Microsoft's latest operating system, Windows 10, was originally expected to be released in late 2015 with the MS Office 2016 released possibly a little ahead. However, speculations of the Windows 10 being released as early as July 2015 came about recently with the alleged statements of AMD CEO Lisa Su.
A lot of devices and software are planned to be released in conjunction with Windows 10 and that includes the Microsoft HoloLens.
The much-talked about Microsoft HoloLens is a wireless holographic headset that will overlap holograms into a user's field of vision. Some describe it as a wearable 3D display.
While there hasn't been too much information about it, it appears to be a way for people to create and use holograms for work or play as well as use the regular windows platform without the use of peripheral such as keyboards, mice, and monitors.
Apparently, the 3D hologram object or designs made via HoloStudio can be printed out as well.
As for the actual architecture of the device itself, it is said to contain three processors including the so-called HPU (holographic processing unit). It is the part responsible in the user being able to manipulate holograms based on the real environment they are in.
The Microsoft HoloLens uses the Kinect 2.0 sensors, RealSense Gesture Control, Intel Wireless Display, an infrared sensor, and a camera of unconfirmed MP.
In its January event, the OS manufacturer unveiled some of its features like the virtual assistant Cortana, the holgram system Hololens, and the browser Spartan, among others. It also introduced the Surface Hub, an 84-inch touch screen device that utilizes Windows 10 for enterprise-level conference rooms.
Microsoft also came up with Continuum, which helps transition the OS in 2-in-1 devices such as laptops with tablet capabilities mainly for enterprise-level solutions and SaaS offerings. Finally, Windows 10 will also carry a two-factor authentication standard for security.
For now, people can have it as a free upgrade to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users. No announcements have been made yet on the pricing of the OS.
Announced in April 2014, Windows 10 is Microsoft's attempt to unify multiple platforms such as the Windows PC, Windows Phone, Windows Embedded, and Xbox product lines. The company also took into consideration the Internet of Things, which is why it took pains in trying to integrate mobile devices into the OS.The Microsoft HoloLens is going to be one of the show-stoppers, if plans go accordingly.
