The release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is just around the corner and fans can't wait to see for themselves the promised stunning graphics and details put into the game. It was also said that the game's visual quality could improve more with Microsoft's new DirectX 12 graphical API. But surely, CD Projekt Red made sure to properly bid farewell to Geralt as he concludes his story in the Witcher series.
Every game in the Witcher series so far is known to push the PC system requirements to their limits and it seems that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be no exception. Developer CD Projekt Red allowed an exclusive early access to the game and showed ten minutes of the gameplay with the PC running on maximum settings. The sneak peek teased the impressive visual details of the game from the shadow cast by objects, to the trees that sway in the window, to the light that reflects in the water. It is also expected that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt won't cause any delay during the gameplay due to those annoying loading screens.
A recent blog post by MSI claims that both The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and another much awaited upcoming game, Batman: Arkham Knight, will get a boost of up to 50 percent in terms of performance and improved visual quality once the DirectX 12 is equipped. CD Projekt Red has already previously stated that Witcher 3 will not have DirectX 12 support at launch but it could be added on later as a graphical update.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will see the end of the adventures of Geralt, as confirmed by CD Projekt Red Senior Writer Jakub Szamalek. Geralt has been the main protagonist so far in the Witcher series and it was his story that the franchise mainly revolved around. "I think good stories must have an ending. You cannot extend them indefinitely, and we felt that Geralt has had such an amazing adventure, and his saga is already so long and complex that this seemed like a good point to think about an appropriate finale for the story," Szamalek said.
However, the farewell to Geralt won't mean the end of the Witcher series. Szamalek said that the Witcher universe has a lot of characters and a lot of places, some of which has not been introduced yet. The next entry in the Witcher franchise could most probably revolve around a previously introduced character. But for now, "this is a good place to let Geralt enjoy his retirement and try something new," as Szamalek said.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will launch on May 19 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 platforms.
