With an appearance in "Captain America: Civil War" next year and a solo Spider-Man Reboot in 2017, a new actor to play the next Spiderman has been the subject of rumors lately, and while no one has been chosen yet, a new speculation has materialized that Tom Holland and Asa Butterfield are the frontrunners to play the next Peter Parker. The new rumor leaves three actors who were formerly reported as the contenders to land the role.
Previously, Sony and Marvel were speculated to be choosing the next Spiderman Actor for dual appearances in both the Spider-Man Reboot and "Captain America: Civil War.". With The Wrap's help, the names of the actors were revealed. The said actors are newcomers but they have already established enough acting credits and developed massive followers. Tom Holland, for instance, is currently starring in the upcoming "In the Heart of the Sea" with Thor himself Chris Hemsworth. Other actors on the list are: Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Timothee Chalamet (Interstellar), Liam James (The Killing), and Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game).
Latino Review also claimed last week that Butterfield is the one leading the list, leaving the four potential actors. The website also says that Butterfield may have already bagged the role and has been "Marvel's favorite since day one."
Now, a new rumor thanks to Devin Faraci of Badass Digest has also landed and says Holland and Butterfield are the top two candidates bagging for the role. "The final two contenders for Spider-Man are Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland, I am hearing. It was down to 2 last week," he wrote on Twitter. These two actors would really be a good fit as the 2017 Spider-Man Reboot film is looking for a younger actor who would portray a high school-aged Peter Parker.
So let's feign this rumor has the legit sources, and to help fans decide between the two actors, we are giving a brief recap of their feats. Asa Butterfield has already proven his acting prowess when he starred in 2011's "Hugo." He also garnered attention by playing Ender Wiggin in science fiction action film "Ender's Game" in 2013. And it looks like he will be making big next year as he's gearing up for a Tim Burton-directed film "Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiars" as Jacob Portman. The plot revolves around Jacob who follows clues that lead him to a mysterious island. Butterfield will also join Samuel L. Jackson (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) in the said film.
Meanwhile, Tom Holland debuted in 2012's disaster drama "The Impossible" and co-starred with Naomi Watts. He also starred in British drama film "How I Live Now" in the following year. And like Butterfield, he will also make it massive this year as he-costars with Chris Hemsworth in "In the Heart of the Sea," which is slated to be released this December 11, 2015.
Very well. Rumors are such a pain, aren't they? For now, let's just wait for the upcoming weeks as the word itself from Marvel and Sony will come out. Now, who are you betting between the two actors? Do you think either of them would fit Andrew Garfield's former role? Let's see on July 28, 2017 as the new Spiderman will appear on his the Spider-Man Reboot movie.
