The recent leak on Watch Dogs 2 makes people more speculative that a sequel will really happen. However, there is barely any confirmation of this, particularly from Ubisoft's top-ranking members.
The leak happened on LinkedIn when Julien Risse, an employee from Ubisoft, placed Watch Dogs 2 on his online CV. This is given some amount of credibility as his profile reads that he is currently a Senior Gameplay Programmer, who has been working in the company in Montreuil since late 2013. It turns out that this leak on Watch Dogs 2 may have been unintentional as the programmer already erased the particular info.
Of course, this does not dismiss the idea of a sequel in any way. It even adds to the possibility as other people have already hinted on possible developments for upcoming games.
For instance, VG 24/7 reports how Jonathan Morin, who is a creative director, shares his thoughts on improvements, saying that he means "to create something that would make people dream about something else." This is because the first version was surely not "perfect in any way." Hence, a following game will be a chance for them to make up for the shortcomings from the first Watch Dogs.
Over at Crossmap, the CEO of Ubisoft, Yves Guillermot, also dropped a hint that Watch Dogs 2 has been in development since last year. Another hint from another person would be a statement from Lionel Raynaud, the VP of Ubisoft Montreal, which goes "fixing and refining what worked well is probably the way to go for Watch Dogs 2." Both of these, however, are yet to be confirmed as well.
Despite the possibility of a sequel, TechnoBuffalo notes that this might not be what is best for Ubisoft as the developer needs to step things up, particularly in the upcoming E3. After the struggle with launching Assassin's Creed Unity, another version of Watch Dogs, being that it wasn't a strong contender, might not be ideal.
It turns out that the Watch Dogs 2 leak is another addition to several hints and rumors for a possible sequel. More information is needed to know that this is really happening. Players should keep themselves pinned; and perhaps E3 would shed more light on this matter.
