It has been a shock for fans since actress Nina Dobrev announced recently that she will be leaving the supernatural drama television series "The Vampire Diaries" after its sixth season, and while others are still puzzling about why she left the CW show, one of the creators behind the vampire drama opened up that she tried to talk Dobrev into staying. Could this be Dobrev leaving to pursue a movie career?
During a KCRW podcast on Wednesday, April 29, Julie Plec, 42, talked about the actress' sudden exit after season 6. "She was just looking forward to moving on with no hard feelings and no drama," she said. Plec also admitted that she tried her best to keep Dobrev from leaving the series. Certainly, it was hard enough not having the lead. "Nina had said earlier this year that she wanted to be done and we spent a little bit of time trying to talk her out of it. [We'd say,] 'Oh, look at all these great plans of how you can stay!'" she elaborated.
Somehow, Nina Dobrev's response to Plec is somewhat making sense. It fits to the pieces she said in an announcement last month. "And she finally was like, 'No, I signed up for six years. I've done my six years. I'm ready to move on and spread my wings.'" Going back, Dobrev made a shocking announcement in her Instagram account last month that she is leaving the show after its sixth and current season. Although it wasn't mentioned her main reason for leaving in the said post, the last two sentences have implied that she will be embarking on a new career. Could she be pursuing a gig in film considering the name "Nina Dobrev" isn't credited to any major movie project apart from "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" and "Let's Be Cops"?
Meanwhile, announcing it early according to Plec removes the shock factor for the fans. She explained why she decided to break the news before the episode airs so that fans can prepare for the inevitable. Well, thanks to the death of Will Gardner (Josh Charles) from the legal and political drama "The Good Wife" because it pushed Plec to make the decision.
Plec also said that the younger audiences, especially the teenagers, will most likely the ones to be affected by Elena Gilbert's disappearance from the show. "As a fan I would die. I would be devastated," she added.
Well, are you bummed that Nina Dobrev will be leaving the show? Do you think she can land a role in the movie industry easily?
