On Saturday night at Las Vegas, Nevada, where the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao event was held, the social media went a little crazy when Jamie Foxx sang the beloved National Anthem of America. The May-Pac clash was supposed to be the fight of the century, but it turned out that Foxx's performance gathered more attention than the fight.
There were plenty of people who thrashed Foxx on Twitter. "Jamie Foxx's national anthem had more twists and turns than the fight," tweeted "Funny Tweets." A girl named Kathleen posted, "If there's anything we all learned from this, it's that Jamie Foxx can't sing."
"Let's all just erase Jamie Foxx's appearance from our collective memory," said "Mitchell." Even the Kiss rock band star Paul Stanley tweeted "JESUS!! How about all singers agreeing if you DON'T want to sing the National Anthem as it was written YOU WON'T SING IT! What was THAT?!?.." A guy named Robert also tweeted "I actually like Jamie Foxx as a singer... but last night was pretty damn funny lmao!!!! Did he sing hallelujah at the end???" Well, these were just some of the meanest Twitter posts.
It should be Mayweather trending that time during the fight when he was announced winner via unanimous decision, but he did not. Not even Manny Pacquiao trended; it was Jamie Foxx who made it to the top trending news on Twitter. It actually lasted for two hours.
"Maypac should have been the undercard, the real fight was Jamie Foxx vs. the National Anthem," said Keith, another Twitter user. "So can we talk about how horrible Jamie Foxx's performance was?" tweeted by a username that goes by Regine.
Even so, Grammy Award-winner Jamie Foxx still managed to finish singing the Star-Spangled Banner though he had some problem staying on key with only an organ as an accompaniment.
