"Doctor Strange" and "Captain America: Civil War" are two Marvel stories that are slated for 2016 movie premier. The first will be a standalone film focusing on Stephen Strange as the Supreme Sorcerer, while the latter will set up the ultimate Avengers battle.
"Doctor Strange" the movie director Scott Derrickson hinted via a Tweet and later in an interview that its storyline will explore the origin story of Stephen Strange. Derrickson himself expressed his fascination toward this particular Marvel character. For him, Strange's origin story is not only one of Marvel's classics but also "he's got one of the best origins ever."
By exploration, the director means playing with alternate realms in a Steve Ditko crazy acid trip way. As such, Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal of "Doctor Strange" is a great way to share the origin story of the Sorcerer Supreme," through exploring other realms in which the Supreme Sorcerer exists.
Coincidentally, doctor Stephen Strange has the ability to manipulate time, making way for some speculations that the Time Gem whose location is unknown could be introduced in the movie, if not in "Thor: Ragnarok" to revert the downfall of Asgard. The Soul Gem, another missing gem of the 6 Infinity Gems, is also being linked with the story of the Sorcerer Supreme. The Gem is said to be in the necklace that doctor Strange wears. In Marvel Comics, the Soul Gem was held by Adam Warlock, while the four other Infinity Gems are currently in Tesseract (Space Gem), Aether (Reality Gem), Power Gem (Orb), and Mind Gem (Scepter).
Another Marvel follower and contributor to moviepilot.com suggested that Vision is both Adam Warlock and Doctor Strange. Assuming it is true, how would the movie writers reconcile the conflict between Vision and Warlock having different gem stones. That according to the writer can be resolved by highlighting the mind stone as the main piece of the 6 infinity gems instead of the soul gem. As per questions on which side Vision will be on in "Captain America: Civil War," he will take no sides. He's on side of humanity as was his response when Cap asked Vision in "The Avengers: Age of Ultron." This will make Vision help no one in the upcoming Captain America movie, and thus provide him with a little role to return for "Doctor Strange" with him taking the lead role? Doctor Strange and Vision share the same stance on civil war.
The theories for "Doctor Strange" the movie are interesting and may hold true considering Marvel movie adaptations' tendency for overlapping storylines - a flaw that is inevitable in writing a story about an interconnected universe. Like "Guardians" and "The Avengers" movie, this too has been in the lineup of Marvel movie adaptations for a long, long time, Kevin Feige revealed to MTV.
