Halo: The Master Chief Collection will unfortunately be known more for being a failure than as a satisfying gaming experience, and that's why the developers of Halo 5: Guardians are promising that the same problems will not pop up for the new game.
According to the Franchise Development Director for Halo, Frank O'Connor, the whole ordeal concerning The Master Chief Collection became a "black eye" for them and the entire franchise. In an interview O'Connor had with Xbox Achievements, he identified some of the causes of the problems for The Master Chief Collection. He said problems concerning the game popped up in part because of unforeseen circumstances plaguing the title as it transitioned from the test to retail stage. Problems also came from rushing the game towards the finish line, and it's hard not to see how that could have had an adverse impact on quality control and assessment.
"To be perfectly honest, there were a lot of things that happened when we got it into a retail environment that we simply didn't see in a test environment, so that's what really caught us by surprise," said O'Connor.
Also adding to the degree of difficulty when it came to perfectly pulling off The Master Chief Collection was just the sheer number of studios that were involved in the process. With five different studios each having their own viewpoints and plans, it simply became a challenge to put the game together once it was time to do so, according to Cinema Blend.
As for Halo 5: Guardians, O'Connor is confident that the launch of the game will be smoother and problem-free. He is also confident that the lessons to be gained from the problems of The Master Chief Collection will help the new game avoid any potential pitfalls, according to Techno Buffalo.
Halo 5: Guardians will be released on October 27 for the Xbox One.
