'Halo 5: Guardians' to show darker side to Master Chief, as teased in viral 'Hunt the Truth' campaign

As the people behind "Halo 5: Guardians" continue their marketing efforts through the successful "Hunt the Truth" campaign, they are now looking to draw in more attention for their upcoming episode as they say it will go to a "darker place."

The Franchise Development Director for Halo, Frank O'Connor, has taken to Twitter talk all about how the latest episode from the series will be "dark," according to Gaming Bolt.

The "Hunt the Truth" campaign has managed to draw a lot of attention for the game since it was first launched, and it has done so by raising a number of questions regarding not only the expansive "Halo" universe, but also about the franchise's protagonist, Master Chief, as well.

One of the most controversial questions brought up the by campaign confronted the very nature of Master Chief, even going so far as to ask whether the franchise's protagonist exists on the good side of morality, according to Gameranx.

All throughout the "Hunt the Truth" campaign, 343 Industries, the game's developer, has been striking a darker tone ahead of the game's release. Aside from featuring a potentially grittier and darker storyline, the game's developer has also been touting the more complex twists and turns set to be found within the game.

The theme is featured all throughout the marketing campaign for the game, with trailers even featuring both Master Chief and Locke engaged in what seems to be a potentially fatal standoff, according to Design & Trend.

The "Hunt the Truth" campaign has also touched on the origin story of Master Chief, with more details possibly being revealed in the game itself. Apart from potential storyline elements, 343 Industries has revealed little about other aspects of the game. Fans will simply have to wait for the game to formally launch to find out.

"Halo 5: Guardians" will be released on October 27 exclusively for the Xbox One, according to Stack.
