Iconic horror flick the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is getting yet another prequel, with an origin story on the main antagonist Leatherface. Although there have been many sequels, prequels, and reboots of the 1974 film, this time, the plot will be an origin story that will have a direct effect on the teenage Leatherface's life and future as a killer.
One of the most recognizable horror veterans today, Lili Taylor has already been conformed to join the cast. She is said to play Leatherface' mother, replacing Angela Bettis who had to drop out due to scheduling issues. Horror fans will remember Taylor and her brilliant performance in the hit horror movie The Conjuring.
The film's plot explores the lives of four violent teenage boys in the 1970's, one of which will one day grow up to be Leatherface. It starts off with the boys kidnapping a young nurse and taking her on a hellish roadtrip. They are then pursued by a policeman whose mental condition is also questionable, and is obsessed on taking revenge. The film will show how the events of that incident will drive one of the teens to become Leatherface.
Directed by French duo Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, the film has already confirmed Stephen Dorf, Jessica Madsen, Sam Strike, Sam Coleman, and James Bloor to be part of the cast.
With the screenplay written by Seth M. Sherwood, there is no confirmed release date yet for Leatherface, but it is reported that Millennium Films is eying for a 2016 release.
