On the "Late Night with David Letterman," the man himself who was a 33-year veteran television host announced his retirement last April 2. Letterman has been on the television every late-night 11 years for the "Late Night" on NBC, and starting in 1993 the Late Show on CBS.

While on the show, he told a story about his fishing experience with son Harry. He said they saw a bird and took a picture of it, which made him realize that he doesn't know what kind of bird it was. He then asked some people about the identity of the bird. The he told himself "When you spend most of the day trying to ID birds, should you really anchor a network TV program?"

Then David Letterman said he called Leslie Moonves (CBS head) and told her that he was retiring. There was a complete silence in the audience, and a little later a standing ovation was given to him. Though he was known for being a joker, they all knew that he was serious about his retirement.

Meanwhile, President Barrack Obama had his appearance again on the "Late Show." "After a tough day at the office or coming home from work, knowing that you've been there to give us a little bit of joy and a little bit of laughter, it has meant so much," Obama said. "You're part of all of us. You've given us a great gift and we love you." They talked and joked about their upcoming retirement. "I was thinking you and me could play some dominoes together," Obama said. "We could go to the local Starbucks and swap stories."

On the latest show of Letterman, Ray Romano hosted the 90-minute special "David Letterman: A Life On Television," where CBS made an effort to pay tribute to David Letterman's legacy. It tackled the top hits of the his late-night life; some listed were Stupid Pet and Human Tricks, outside-the-studio stunts, cooking segments, and music acts were shown, also the segment with Dave's mom. "Madonna Unleashed" was also another. Truly, the man will be missed but he had his fairshare of glories.
