World of Warcraft is getting some much-needed improvements in the form of new hotfixes coming via the 6.1.2 update and new content in the way of the 6.2 PTR just as the game tries to endure one of its toughest stretches.
The 6.1.2 update fixes the issue of an additional Bellows Operator spawning after the fight has moved to Phase 2 for The Blast Furnace in Blackrock Foundry. Another bug addressed by the update is the one where players were not being credited with an achievement after fulfilling the requirements for Patrol Mission Specialist, according to Battle.net.
These new fixes are being made in addition to the ones already implemented back on April 28 and 21. As for the new content, it's worth noting that the things players will see in the 6.2 PTR are not guaranteed to appear in the actual game, given that the PTR is only meant for testing. Some of the notable inclusions in the PTR, or Public Test Realms, include a new zone in the form of Tanaan Jungle.
Players with level 3 garrisons will now also be capable of constructing a shipyard. The new raid known as Hellfire Citadel has also been added, and it will include 13 diabolical bosses players need to defeat. A new level of difficulty, known as Mythic, will also be available for Draenor Dungeons, according to Battle.net.
The changes are being made in the wake of news coming out that subscribers for the game have dropped from over 10 million to around 7 million in just three months, according to Gamespot. The Warlords of Draenor expansion released back in October helped push up subscriber numbers for a while, but it looks as though the honeymoon phase is over.
Despite the drop off, World of Warcraft is still the biggest subscriber-based MMO in the world, according to PC Gamer, but the latest news does hint at some looming troubles at the very least.
Even with the news regarding World of Warcraft, Blizzard is in no danger financially, with the mobile game Hearthstone still generating oodles of profits for the company.
