Gotham Season 2 is at the peak of fans' anticipation as the first's finale, "All Happy Families Are Alike," has just aired last Monday, May 4. Apparently, the FOX TV series continues with a more exciting plot as will be seen in the coming reports.
One of the highlights of the season finale, as pointed in Deadline, was that of Fish Mooney's death as she was thrown in to the city waters. At the same time, Penguin rejoices as he deemed himself the king of the criminals.
Gotham will no longer be ruled by Falcone as he retires. Apart from Mooney being dead, Sal Maroni is too. Lastly, Detective James Gordon has been given a certain authority he may not have wanted in the first place.
Fans of Jada Pinkett Smith were surely downed by what happened to her during the season finale. However, the Gotham villain still has a slim chance of returning despite her saying that she will no longer be coming back next season.
In the first place, though, the murder of Fish was essential to the plot as the executive producer, Bruno Heller, points out. He says, "She's such a domineering, powerful, imperious person that Penguin can't possibly be the crime lord in Gotham while Fish is around." He then gives some hope of Pinkett's return as he continues, "This is Gotham and death isn't a barrier to return... I'm not saying that she'll definitely return."
That is just one of the hints which could be expected from Gotham season 2 - Fish Mooney not being dead after all. However, darker things await as Heller teases, "There will be a very big villain arriving in Season 2, one who doesn't want to run Gotham, but destroy it." Odds are looking high that this will be none other than The Joker, who was mentioned during the Awardsline screening of the finale last April 29.
Aside from The Joker, IBTimes reports of another villain in the midst of Gotham by the name of "Edward Nygma aka The Riddler."
Gotham Season 2 is already in the process of creation, with the story line being drafted the past week. Consequently, production will begin on June 22. Viewers, who missed some episodes, or even the finale, will have time to catch up and prepare themselves for what's to come.
