A ton-worth of updates regarding the production of next year's comic book supervillain teamup film 'Suicide Squad' hit the web recently. These updates featured quite a number of official photos of the characters, particularly Floyd Lawton/Deadshot (played by Will Smith) and Harley Quinn (played by Margot Robbie).
The highlight of last week's photo reveal was that of the Suicide Squad team members (labeled in the photo as Task Force X) in their full outfits. The image featured Will Smith (Deadshot), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Cara Delevingne (the Enchantress), Karen Fukuhara (Katana), Adawale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Jay Hernandez (El Diablo), and Adam Beach (Slipknot).
Intrestingly, Viola Davis, who plays Amanda Waller in the film, is missing from the picture. In the comics, Amanda Waller is the head of a black operations division of the government who brings the Suicide Squad together and sends them off to missions. Why she is not included in the group photo is not clear, but given that Ayer stated that the picture only contained the members of "Task Force X," Davis' character may be pulling the strings from the background in this movie.
More recent paparazzi images show the cast in action, with an image of actor Will Smith carrying Margot Robbie. Whether this was taken from a scene that was being filmed or the two were just goofing around is currently unclear, although a lot of speculations point to how the story may heavily focus on the relationship between the two.
Many DC fans would remember that in the animated film "Batman: Assault on Arkham," Harley Quinn showed her interest in Deadshot early on, in spite of the latter brushing off her attempts to get him interested. Later on, it was revealed that Harley was just using the team to free the Joker, showing that she was still very much "into" the Clown Prince of Crime. Is it possible that this particular story might play out in next year's "Suicide Squad?"
"Suicide Squad" hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
