DC Confirms Commissioner Gordon is the New Batman; Huge Changes in Store for the Batman Franchise

By

Gotham City loses Bruce Wayne and the police force is lost without the Dark Knight. DC confirms huge changes in the future of the Batman franchise and yes, Commissioner Gordon steps in to fill the boots of the Dark Knight in Batman #41.

Batman writer Scott Snyder confirms that the events of Batman: Endgame (Batman #40) is indeed a precursor of things to come in the future of the franchise. The last issue showed Batman getting crushed under a mountain of debris during his struggle with the Joker. The Joker did die, but Bruce Wayne had to die with him, too. This leaves a desolate Gotham City, with the police force overwhelmed without the help of the Dark Knight, and the streets crime-ridden.

DC and Snyder confirm that the most obvious "replacement" for Batman is Commissioner Gordon, and the story will indeed make progress with a lot of changes and a totally different direction. Although Snyder hasn't yet divulged everything that this new story's direction is going towards in Batman #41, it is mentioned that Gordon's connections to the force and resources makes him a very good choice to take Bruce Wayne's place as Batman.

Commissioner Gordon as Batman will definitely take the franchise to a different direction. For starters, the difference in the ideologies and personalities of Wayne and Gordon is quite a big gap. Wayne was a vigilante, and didn't always follow the rules. He dealt with villains with his own brand of justice, essentially took justice into his own hands. While Gordon is a cop. He is, by nature, a law enforcer. Gordon's brand of justice is significantly different from Wayne's.

Although DC has officially confirmed Gordon's takeover, not all details have been revealed yet. But rumors are circulating that Gordon's batman will be wearing a special exo-armor type of Batsuit, and will rely heavily on technology. Could this mean that Gordon will be donning the Dawn of Justice Bat armor?

The development of this new storyline is both exciting and a little scary for die-hard Bruce Wayne fans, but this sure is a story arc to watch. Written by Scott Snyder, Batman #41 will hit the shelves on June 10.
