Things are taking shape very slowly for the movie adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series as producers are steadily confirming their support for the film. Although Javier Bardem and Russel Crowe have expressed their interest, there is still no final word from Sony regarding the film's casting or directorship.

With Sony and MRC picking up the project, a few names have confirmed to be interested in joining the production team for the first installment of the Dark Tower movie adaptation. Of course, the author Stephen King himself will join in producing the film. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard of Imagine Entertainment have confirmed that they will help produce the film. And Weed Road Production, owned by the film's very own script writer, will also join the helm in producing this installment of The Dark Tower.

With the film's financial support solidified by the confirmation of the said producers, another aspect of the Dark Tower movie adaptation is also slowly taking shape, although there have been no confirmation yet. The casting, which could highly impact how the film will be received by the movie-goers, have had a few names interested in the roles. For the role of the Gunslinger (Roland Deschain), the series' main protagonist, both Javier Bardem and Russel Crowe have expressed interest. Both have since stated that they wanted to play the part even before the series was picked up by Sony.

The story follows Roland Deschain, a gunslinger who is the last of his kind, on his quest to find the Dark Tower. Set in a magical but technologically advanced American Old West, the Mid-World where Deschain and the rest if humanity lives in is falling apart.

With an epic story that combines different genres, producers often compare this project to other successful franchises like Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings. Stephen King's the Dark Tower series has no confirmed release date yet, but it does promise to be one series to watch for.
