iPhone 7 Leaked Specs: 3D Screen Display, Flexible Screen Part of Plan for Future iDevices? Apple's 3D Technology Underway?

By

iPhone 7 is one upcoming high-end smartphone that iDevice users are seriously curious about. Besides the enhancements that the device's new features will bring, there's that lingering question on how far Apple will go to stay one step ahead of the competition. Will it push through with one ambitious goal like having 3D capabilities for the upcoming flagship phone like what its unconfirmed leaked specs are suggesting?

Apple is reported to feature a 3D display for iPhone 7 without the need for 3D glasses. Supporting this suggestion is the fact that TPK, Apple's supply chain partner, is currently working on a project that is associated with 3D technology. The project is referred to as "naked eye 3D screen" as it is designed for glassless 3D experience.

The closest confirmation that can be linked to these unconfirmed iPhone 7 leaked specs is that said by Apple CEO Tim Cook regarding the possibility of the device having a screen that supports 3D holographic display. Cook did admit that Apple is working on an "interactive holography display device," and has been awarded with copyrights in September 2014. Now that the patent is in hand, it's up to Apple now to include such technology in their devices like the iPhone 7.

The patent, however, is just one aspect of a multi-faceted process for device production. There's also the issue on how Apple is going to keep production cost low with such an ambitious goal. The availability of a homegrown 3D technology is another, though we don't doubt Apple's capability to produce something impressive.

Another way in which Apple can bring a "bounce" to its display is to offer a flexible screen. LG has recently launched a slightly curved screen from top to bottom, called the G Flex 2. Samsung also has the stunning Galaxy S6 Edge with also a curved display, and some Samsung fans wish the upcoming Galaxy Note 5 to sport the same look. Will Apple follow suit?

It will not be the first time that a tech company will bring 3D technologies to smartphones. The Amazon Fire phone is one example, and now Silicon Valley-based company Leia is developing a technology that gives any LCD display the ability to generate 3D holographic images.

While an iPhone 7 with a 3D display would be a game changer, it will still be a surprise if Apple did incorporate it to the next flagship iDevice. In the report of Economic Dily News - same report that first mention the 3D support for iPhone 7 - it mentions that Apple is more focused on developing three-dimensional software ecosystems. By doing so, it will attempt to change the current in-cell technology which may not be compatible with the current 3D technology. What ever that means, that can be translated to this: a serious design change for future iPhone smartphones.
