Gotham's season 1 finale aired last May 4 showed an epic gang war with the death of one gang leader and the rise of another. A new discovery at the Wayne mansion also opens more questions in young Bruce's head, as well as a glimpse into the future Batcave. With all these, what can we expect in season 2?
Last Monday's airing of Gotham's season 1 finale left us with some lose ends which the producers say will be a precursor to what we can expect for season 2. The Falcone-Maroni gang rivalry did end with the death of Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett-Smith), and the stepping down of the Falcone (John Doman) mob boss, but the ambitious Oswald "Penguin" Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) seems to be eyeing the crime lordship of Gotham City. Meanwhile, as Bruce (David Mazouz) tried to come to terms with the things he discovered about his father and Wayne Enterprises, he uncovers another secret at the Manor. From the looks of it, one can assume that the passage behind the fireplace will led to the future Caped Crusader's Batcave.
So far, Gotham has been true to its premise of focusing on the origins of some of the most recognizable villains in the Batman comics, and the first season has introduced us to a lot of them. According to executive producer Bruno Heller, more villains are coming to Gotham, and we'll be getting to know more in season 2.
There's a possibility that Gotham season 2 will show us the origins of the Joker, one of Batman's most notorious villains. Heller does confirm the connection between Jerome, whom we met earlier in season 1, and the Joker that we know. But of course, as hinted at the end of season 1, there could be focus on the Penguin's rise to power in the next season. Another interesting character to watch for the next season is that of Selina (Camren Bicondova), who Fish has influenced greatly.
And of course, there's the young Bruce Wayne and the things he has slowly discovered about his parents. Season 2 will definitely lead to him uncovering more secrets and maybe a few answers about his parents' past.
With more villains coming to Gotham City, there's a lot to look forward to in Gotham season 2. Announced last January 17, production will start on June 22 in time for this coming fall.
