Fox has recently released the first trailer for their new series Lucifer and it's sexy as hell (pun intended). The show is based on the character crated by Neil Gaiman and Sam Keith in Vertigo's comic book series The Sandman.
When Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) decided to leave his throne in hell and move to the City of Angels to "retire". Handsome, charming and charismatic, things are going great for him. He owns the hottest upscale nightclub in LA and he gets to indulge in his favorite things - music, wine, and women. Until a beautiful young pop star gets murdered in front of his nightclub while enjoying the night with him. That's when things went downhill for Lucifer.
LAPD homicide detective Chloe Dancer (Lauren German) is assigned to investigate the murder and Lucifer becomes involved with the investigation. For a demon, the idea of dispensing justice was very enticing to him. And that's when he begins to doubt himself. As God's emissary comes to LA to convince him to return to Hell, Lucifer wonders if Evil really is his calling, or can he turn Good?
This story is a very interesting and intriguing look into the fallen angel that we all know as Lucifer. Neil Gaiman and Sam Keith, the character's creators has somehow "humanized" the devil and made him struggle with temptations the way we do, only he is tempted to do good. Fox's new series is largely based on that very same character in Gaiman and Keith's comic book The Sandman and has been given a sexy and modern makeover.
The cast is headed by Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, Lesley-Ann Brandt as his best friend Maze, and Lauren German as the LAPD homicide detective Chloe Dancer. Other cast members include Nicholas Gonzalez (Dan), Rachael Harris (Linda), and D.B. Woodside (Amenadiel).
Judging from the trailer, the show's idea is quite promising, and as a lot of successful TV shows as of late are based on comic books, it could be another hit show for Fox. Lucifer is set to premier for its first season sometime in 2016.
