The Fifa Women's World Cup will start in June and England has already managed to complete their line-up. A recently concluded warm-up game between US and Ireland highlighted the US team's superb performance over the Irish Women. Mark Sampson of the England team names its 23 athletes slated for this year's league.
Abby Wambach lead the game last Sunday during an exhibition game between the US team and the Ireland team in San Jose, California. Team USA won 3-0 over Ireland during the send-off tour for the Women's World Cup slated for June in Canada. The first game will be between the host's team, Canada and China. Team US will go up against Team Mexico on May 17, Sunday as part of the send-off tour. Abby Wambach performance is something to look forward to after scoring the first goal in the 42nd minute of the game against Ireland. Irish defender slightly got injured after being hit by a ball directly to the face during the match.
Every live game of the Fifa Women's World Cup will be featured on BBC Two, BBC Three and BBC Red Button. All of these matches will be available live via the BBC Sport website. England gets special treatment as full commentary is provided in every England game on the BBC Radio 5 Live. The tournament will begin on June 6, Saturday. England on the other hand will have its first match on Tuesday, June 9 against Team France.
England on the other hand has already announced the 23 members of its team for this year's Fifa Women's World Cup. Casey Stoney, former team captain of England is committed on sending the team towards the biggest prize of the season, the championship cup. This is her third World Cup and is also slated to be her last as well. Head coach Mark Sampson is eyeing to get the team to the semi-finals but welcomes the thought of ending up as the victor in this year's league. Steph Houghton, current Team Captain of England believes that Casey is still a vital member of the squad especially in this year's leagues.
Eni Aluko, Toni Duggan, Jodie Taylor, Fran Kirby, Lianne Sanderson and Ellen White are selected as the six frontline players for the team. Eight newcomers are also included in this year's England team - Lucy Bronze, Duggan, Kirby, Alex Greenwood, Jade Moore, Jordan Nobbs, Jo Potter and Taylor. Siobhan Chamberlain, Alex Scott, Stoney, Jill Scott, Fara Williams, Aluko, Karen Carney and Katie Chapman on the other hand are playing their third time on the World Cup.
June is just a few weeks away and England is up for a competitive start against France. USA and Ireland on the other hand are expected to be at the peak of their game as the Fifa Women's World Cup begins.
