Microsoft announces high end smartphone, the Lumia 940; Device to include a retina scanner, making passwords obsolete

By

Last March, Redmond-based tech giant Microsoft announced its plan to rid its phones of passwords. Their new software called Windows Hello, will use facial recognition and eye and fingerprint scanning technology to unlock accounts, making this another groundbreaking move from the powerful Microsoft.

The sad part about this whole thing is the release of this high end smartphone with a retina scanner, namely the Lumia 940, will not happen until after Windows 10 comes out. Microsoft said that Windows 10 will come out at an undisclosed date this summer. This means a few more months of waiting. The Lumia 940 will immediately follow after Windows 10 so October would be the best estimate. It's all up in the air but late 2015 is a safe bet. "We continue to make great development progress and shared today that Windows 10 will be available this summer in 190 countries and 111 languages," Windows Chief Terry Myerson said in a company post recently.

Windows Hello, their software that incorporates biometric security wants to make it very difficult for hackers or keyloggers that track what you type. This would basically eliminate password stealing and if it works, it would be a tremendous accomplishment and advancement in handset technology. Vivo and ZTE have also announced their retina scanners for their smartphones also hitting the market sometime this year. This has been done before but there was a glitch, the Iris scanner did not work perfectly. A photograph could unlock the phone and does not really provide the security that you are looking for. Hopefully, Microsoft has fixed this bug. It will only be a matter of time before all smartphones have this as a basic feature.

Microsoft is aware that the public is eagerly anticipating the release of both Windows 10 and the Lumia 940. The interest is there and people cannot wait for summer. The wait is almost over.
