Hefty details leaked regarding the release of NBA 2K16 out early October reveals that three basketball icons, 2015 MVP Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and James Harden will be featured on the new cover of the next basketball sim game.
Similar to several previous games in the series, NBA 2K16 is reportedly collaborating with another respected non-basketball name on board the development, Spike Lee.
The renowned actor and director is said to be contributing to 2K16 supported by an evidence of a photo of the game's cover leaked to Polygon. Gamespot cited that just beneath the NBA 2K16 title reads the texts, 'A Spike Lee Joint.' According to the leaks, a source who is involved closely to the game's development revealed that Lee will be contributing to the career mode which appears to be a point of emphasis in NBA 2K15.
NBA 2K15 also featured celebrity Pharrell Willims on its cover who had curated the soundtrack of the game. The same task was handled by cover star LeBron James the year before while NBA 2K13 had Jay-Z as an executive producer.
Back in March, New York Post reported that Lee, a big fan of New York Knicks, was involved on an NBA game project in San Francisco where 2K series developer Visual Concepts is based out of the Bay Area.
Spike Lee's directorial work related to basketball is the movie, 'He Got Game', starring Denzel Washington and semi-retired NBA player Ray Allen.
The leaked cover art of NBA 2K16 unfolds that there will be not just one but three cover stars, namely, Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant, 2015 MVP Stephen Cury, and Houston Rocket's James Harden. Interestingly, this is the first time that there will be multiple covers for a game in the series since 2011 when legends Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird each had their own box art for NBA 2K12.
2K Sports has yet to make formal announcements regarding NBA 2K16 release and unless the game developer doesn't follow the established norm for the series, this new game is expected to be launched early October on Xbox One, PS4 and PC platforms.
