News that Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, Assassin's Creed Syndicate to be current gen only will certainly be a downer for gamers who are still using older consoles. However, players should understand that Ubisoft has their reasons for doing so; and perhaps it is about time that they should also start considering newer consoles for their video games.
According to GamingBolt, Assassin's Creed: Syndicate will no longer support PS3 and Xbox 360. Moreover, Yves Guillermot, the developer company's CEO, said that there would be more games to follow the same route.
An exception would be Just Dance. Quoting Guillermot, he says, "On Just Dance, we will continue to bring old-gen console versions. But on the other products like Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six, The Division, and the unannounced franchise, we will not have old-gen versions."
This move is explained through figures in terms of sales. There have been improvements for Xbox One and PS4 games from comprising only 15 percent of software sales last year to 52 percent. Worldwide, the PS4 console is performing very well, reaching over 22M units.
It seems then that other consoles such as Wii U will be put in the shadows for most of Ubisoft's titles.
Aside from these two titles, another AAA game from Ubisoft that will be on new consoles would be Tom Clancy's The Division. iDigitalTimes reports that this will likely be released in Q1 of 2016. Other suggested new games to come would be a new Just Dance, Far Cry, or even Splinter Cell. Reboots for other franchises from Tom Clancy are also a possibility, which includes Ghost Recon.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, Assassin's Creed Syndicate to be current gen only will limit the game's reach. Devoted fans, however, will have enough time to work out acquiring newer consoles as the two games are set to arrive later this year on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
