New leaks on Microsoft’s R&D hint cutting-edge Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL features

By

Latest video leaks show that Microsoft is up to something that would greatly improve user experience once their upcoming Lumia 740, Lumia 840, Lumia 940, and Lumia 940 XL are released. Future owners could expect a Video App that can play videos downloaded from the web smoothly as well as Microsoft's secretly developed "Interactive Tiles."

Superfast Video App

A new video recently appeared showing Windows 10 for Phones Video app, demoing a smooth process in playing videos. The app was said to be coming from a new build of the Windows 10 for Phones OS, which was quietly "making rounds."

WindowsCenter.ir managed to get their hands on it and caught this Video app in smooth action on the Lumia 1320. The app seemed to have a different UI navigation and showed "folder-based navigation system," which was seen to be similar with the Video Preview app on Windows 10 Desktop.

Also in the app, the videos downloaded from the web reportedly "show up in folders without any issues."

The app was also verified to offer complete support for .MKV files and was able to play them neatly.

Window's upcoming Lumia 740, Lumia 840, Lumia 940, and Lumia 940 XL are sure to feature this kind of Video app.

"Interactive Tiles"

Besides a snappy Video App, Windows reportedly confirmed that they are developing an "Interactive Tiles" and was said to bring it to future Windows 10 builds. Three demo videos were uploaded via YouTube that could give fans some hints about how the Interactive Tiles would look like, as well as its functionality.

Various links of some videos demonstrating the "Interactive Tiles" on Windows were previously posted on a Twitter account, @hoxod. The videos were later removed by Microsoft, but NPU managed to have three videos and uploaded them on their YouTube account.

The tiles seem to resemble a widget and were more useful on Windows or if they come on Windows Phone such as Lumia 740, Lumia 840, Lumia 940, and Lumia 940 XL, which could possibly happen. These widget-like tiles allow users to leave the "Start" screen to interact with any Windows application and display any notification by accessing the tiles.

Windows "Interactive Tiles" have the following features:

  • Enable parallel tasking between Modern UI applications
  • Utilize Interactive Tile as notification dashboard of application
  • Access information directly and quickly thru Interactive Tiles
  • Leverage interactive tiles as cross-device wormhole.

Microsoft's upcoming devices are slated for a Fall of 2015 release date.
