Ariel Winter's custody drama is finally over and the "Modern Family" star is now officially an emancipated minor. The legal action was decided granting the emancipation after the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services found evidence of emotional abuse inflicted by Chrisoula Workman.

After three long years of legal battle, the 17-year-old Ariel Winter is no longer under the custody of her estranged mother Chrisoula Workman as the court has granted the actress' full emancipation.

"I am now officially emancipated!!!" tweeted Winter who plays Alex Dunphy on ABC's "Modern Family". "I'm really lucky I have an amazing support system and lovely people in my life who have given me the support and guidance to have been given this wonderful opportunity."

She also acknowledged her sister Shanelle Gray and their father Glenn Workman for their help and support.

"Most importantly, I want to thank @shanelle_gray and my father for their special support regarding this matter, I really couldn't have done it without them." she wrote. "Thank you to all of my family, friends, and fans who have supported me through all of my endeavors in life, and have encouraged me. Thank you for making my life so special! I can't wait to embark on my new adventures."

According to her lawyer, Amir Pitchvai, Ariel is a "capable and responsible adult," and "she is very happy."

Winter had been living with her sister since 2012 after the allegations of her mother's emotional and physical abuse to the young actress has surfaced. Though her mother denied everything that was accused to her, the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services still found an evidence of emotional abuse.

In 2012, attorneys attempted to transfer the control of Winters' finances to a blocked account but was not granted. However, amended approval was made in 2014 which gave her father the control of the star's finances.

Despite this family challenges, Winter still had an incredible year in the spotlight. The Modern Family actress accepted the slime challenge at Kids' Choice Awards where the cast got covered in green slime in March and attended prom with her boyfriend Laurent Claude Gaudette in April.
