Project X Sequel: Warner Bros Reveals New Title, Sets Release Date

By

It was first announced back in 2012 that Warner Bros. Pictures is planning a big-screen sequel to the comedy teen flick 'Project X' by director Nima Nourizadeh. Today, WB studio has officially scheduled the release date of the new film, which will be on August 19, 2016.

According to reports, the sequel will be titled as 'Project XX'. There are still no words on who will direct or if the original cast - Thomas Mann, Oliver Cooper and Jonathan Daniel Brown - will reprise their roles. 'Project X' co-writer, Michael Bacall (from 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World') is already penning the script.

Warner Bros. decided that a sequel is worth making after 'Project X', the first 'found-footage' party film, earned a whopping $21 million opening weekend. It's a pretty big gain for producers Todd Phillips and Joel Silver, considering that it only cost them a mere $12 million to make it.

Project X revolved around three high school 'losers', who threw a party to boost their profiles. The night quickly got out of hand, which resulted in a neighborhood fire, and a showdown with the police. The events were seen from the point-of-view of a home video camera.

The original cast were virtual unknowns before the film. Rumor has it that there's a high chance the studio will go with a new cast of fresh-face actors to continue the party. Along with the 'Project X' sequel, Warner Bros. also scheduled the release date for Gavin O'Connor's 'The Accountant', starring Ben Affleck, Jeffrey Tambor, Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons, which will be on January 29, 2016.

Todd Phillips, known for 'The Hangover' franchise, will also direct a new comedy titled 'Arms & The Dudes', starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller. The sequel 'Project XX' is set to open against Travis Knight's stop-motion adventure 'Kubo and the Two Strings', the fourth feature film from LAIKA.
