The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will soon be receiving the latest Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update along with other less pricey Samsung devices. The update will come with improvements and bug fixes.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini at present runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. The operating system update will come with the new Touch Wiz UI, like the 64-bit ART runtime and Material Design. Enhancements also include the new Quick Settings, Recent Apps menu, new lock screen, new notification panel, and the usual bug fixes and performance improvements. The updates also include Project Volta for improved battery life of the S5 variant.
The confirmation of the inclusion of the compact variant of the S5 in the next round of updates was posted on the Samsung DL Support page of Samsung Denmark.
Reports say the roll out of the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop for the model SM-G800 will begin seeding early in June although there is no confirmed exact release date. Other reports peg a May release for other regions.
The new wave of updates for the newer Samsung devices will follow the Samsung roll out of the Android 5.0 Lollipop version to its lineup of premium high-end Galaxy smartphones and phablets. The first wave rollout began in February and is said to be nearly finished save for a model or two.
The S5 Mini is a more compact, less expensive variant of the Galaxy S5. The midrange specs such as the processor, display, and camera of the S5 Mini are also less powerful and impressive that the original S5. However the S5 Mini's selling point is its smaller size and cheaper cost for smartphone buyers.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini was recently introduced in the phone lineup of AT&T and U.S. Cellular. There is no announcement yet on the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update release schedule in the United States.
