Leaks show that Microsoft is developing two new productivity apps, with one being updated last March 10. These apps enable Windows Phone users, such as Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL, to take voice notes without even losing any detail from a conversation and join a meeting by a voice call from the device.
The apps also seem to be most useful in a business setting, with Microsoft rumored to buy BlackBerry for $7 billion.
Two new Windows Phone apps
The first was "InstaNote". The application reportedly allows Windows Phone owners to take voice notes without even losing any detail from a conversation. The application will save notes in OneNote and share it freely with others by an advanced labeling system. If ported in Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL, future owners would be able to take voice notes, retain conversation details, and even share it with others.
Currently, the InstaNote app was said to be at version V: 2015.309.9.5224, and was last updated on March 10, 2015.
The second app that was leaked was "Dialer for Lync". This enables Windows Phone users to join a meeting of Lync (Skype for Business) by a voice call from the smartphone. The app reportedly "communicates with the number of a 'Microsoft Conference Bridge' and enters the appropriate username and password automatically" by using the mobile's carrier network. The Dialer for Lync Meetings gets data for a person's scheduled meetings from the Windows Phone calendar. This would prove useful for a user who is away from the computer and have no data connection on the smartphone, such as Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL.
It was not yet disclosed as to when "InstaNote" and "Dialer for Lync" would be released, but the two appeared to be in "active development." Further, both apps followed after "Flow by Outlook", "Office Now", "Revolve", and "OneClip" were discovered, implying Microsoft's "renewed focus on productivity."
Microsoft about to buy BlackBerry
The two apps seem to be useful for those who are in business, as recent rumors suggest that Microsoft is planning to buy BlackBerry.
BlackBerry said that they are going to lay off workers specifically in the mobile division to "consolidate its business."
BlackBerry reportedly said, "As a result, we have made the decision to consolidate our device software, hardware and applications business, impacting a number of employees around the world. We know that our employees have worked hard on behalf of our company and we are grateful for their commitment and contributions."
The company was not able to give more details as to the number of employees affected globally.
Others said that Microsoft is about to make $7 billion offer to BlackBerry, amounting to a 26% premium for stock, or a price of $13.23. Would there be a Windows Phone BlackBerry?
Microsoft is yet to make official statements about the acquisition as well as for their upcoming Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL. Hence, these should be taken with a grain of salt.
