After Glory Perth players barred from competing in the A-League finals due to salary-cap breaches, the 21 year old striker Jamie Maclaren is quitting the Australian professional soccer club. While Glory's nod seems unlikely to happen, Maclaren has filed a breach-of-contract against the club.
After leading the competition for most of the season, Glory Perth was disqualified from competing in the A-League finals series by Football Federation Australia, after the club's penalty for cheating the salary cap. Aside from competing for the A-League championship, the players of the club are also eliminated from any chance for next year's AFC Asian Champions League.
Of course, the players were disappointed at the Glory Perth. Their hopes of winning the A-League championship had been taken away. Players', including Jamie Maclaren, disappointment has led to quitting the club.
It was reported that Perth has agreed to release Youssouf Hersi and star goalkeeper Danny Vukovic, despite their remainder of the contract
Additionally, Perth is also letting the defender Scott Jamieson to leave the club, despite being contracted next season. And, speculations are surfacing that Perth captain Michael Thwaite will not be at the club next season.
But as for Jamie Maclaren's release, the Glory Perth seems to be tight on freeing the young striker.
This, of course, made Maclaren's manager, Paddy Dominguez, rage. The manager told The World Game it wasn't fair. Other players were being released from the remainder of their contracts with Glory Perth, while Maclaren was not.
"Other players don't seem to have much of a problem in being allowed to leave Perth when they still have time left on their contracts," Dominguez said.
"So I don't understand why regular first-team players would be given permission to leave and Jamie Maclaren is not, after he sat on the bench for most of the season.
Thus, Jamie Maclaren has filed a formal breach-of-contract notice against Perth Glory. The player submitted the notice to the Professional Footballers' Australia union on Thursday.
Will Perth Glory release Jamie Maclaren? Stay tune for more updates.
