Xbox gaming services has been affected since Saturday. According to Microsoft both of its consoles Xbox360 and Xbox One is down. The Xbox Live Status page shows that both its social and gaming are down on the Xbox 360. Besides, the core services are also limited for both the Xbox One and the Xbox 360 game machines.

The site was down for around three hours but Microsoft said that it was resolved in the early hours of this morning. The company in its statement said that it was caused by a bad software update. According to some 'Anonymous' Twitter accounts have owned up for the hacking the gaming service. "We are aware of the issue and have our engineers working to get it fixed ASAP! Thanks for your patience while we get everything back to normal," said Microsoft.

Microsoft also said that there were problems with multiplayer combat in "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" after an update was posted. There was an issue with Facebook sharing and they were working with Activision to solve the problems. [Update Sunday, 1:25 a.m. Pacific: Microsoft says core services are back up and running. Social and gaming is still limited on the Xbox 360].

Even a few of Microsoft apps were not working properly. These include Slacker Radio and Xbox Fitness, which Microsoft promised to fix as soon as possible. Microsoft said that it will notify anyone who is signed in to a Microsoft account and has provided a 10-digit U.S. phone number about Xbox Live and the affected apps.

This is the second most high profile outage which hackers are claiming to be done by them. Earlier as well Facebook and a number of other networks was offline for most of Tuesday morning. Lizard Squad initially appeared to take responsibility for the outage, but Facebook blamed the problems on "a change that affected the configuration systems". It has still not been established as to who carried out the huge cyber-attacks on Sony Pictures in December - though the Federal Bureau of Investigation has repeatedly blamed North Korea.
