Fans of the Yu-Gi-Oh! series rejoice - a new game based on your favorite series is on the way, and it's coming to current-gen consoles like the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
Initial reports from PlayStation LifeStyle reveal that Germany's USK (Unterhaltungssoftware Selbskontrolle - Entertainment Software Self-Regulation Body) has reviewed and given the first ratings for the game, whose full title is Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist. While ratings for Legacy of the Duelist are not yet available as of press time, one interesting tidbit that is available is that Konami Digital Entertainment is still listed as the publisher of the game.
Industry watchers have raised doubts over Konami's recent corporate actions, including their announcement that they will focus their efforts on developing and publishing games for mobile platforms like iOS and Android, as well as the April 27 announcement of the cancellation of Silent Hills, the latest installment in their flagship horror game franchise,
Another cause for concern in the gaming industry about the company is Konami's public fallout with esteemed game director Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear Solid series. In a statement, Kojima stressed that he is still involved with the game, however, assuring fans that "I'm determined to make it the greatest game I've directed to date."
Insider sources are telling a different story however, revealing that senior staff, including key developers like Kojima, are given restricted access to company communications such as Internet, phone and email. Conflicts between Kojima and Konami has resulted in formerly permanent staff being virtually demoted to contractors. Kojima himself is expected to leave the company after the publication and release of Metal Gear Solid 5.
In any case, the release of the new Yu-Gi-Oh! game is a telling clue of how the company plans to move forward in the future.
