The new flagship phone for Sony is the Xperia Z4 as it will be known in Japan. For the rest of the world, the same phone will be known as the Xperia Z3+. The release of the new phone has been officially announced as June, the company said on May 26. The phone is an upgraded version of the Xperia Z3.
An upgraded version of the Xperia Z3+ will be available soon enough in the market. The internal specs have been tweaked a little and there is a nice external upgrade. The new handset is still waterproof and dust-resistant, but its USB port no longer requires a flap to protect it from water ingress. Both front and rear-facing cameras now use Sony's Exmor sensor and the selfie camera has been upgraded from 2-megapixels to 5-megapixels. The rear-facing camera is still 20.7-megapixels. A different mobile experience can now be enjoyed with the revamped and intellectually innovated Xperia 3+
It has the same 5.2-inch 1080p display as the Z3, which puts it a little way behind Samsung (S6 and Edge) and LG (G3 and G4) in the resolution stakes, but it does now have an octacore Snapdragon 810 processor. The upgrades are more significant in the processor department where the Z3's Snapdragon 801 has been replaced by the new Snapdragon 810. There are still 3GB of RAM on board but storage has been upped from 16 to 32GB. The specs have all seen a worthwhile bump and the refinement of the hardware means that the phone is now a bit slimmer (6.9mm) and lighter (144 grams) than it was before. The downside is slightly reduced battery capacity, but it still offers up a 2,900mAh pack.
The advantage includes the movement of the micro USB port to the base of the phone and now doesn't require the closing of the cap in order to keep it waterproof. The magnetic charging pin has also been removed in pursuit of cleaner lines. The phone will run on Android 5.0, the Xperia Z3+ is expected to be available globally from June, alongside the Xperia Z4 Tablet, which was announced at MWC in March.
Pricing of the Sony Xperia Z3+ remains to be detailed. It will retail for 699 Euros in Europe; pricing for other regions has not been released yet. A more flexible dual-SIM model will also be available at some point.
