Google Android M dev preview hints 5 possible features in 2015 LG, Huawei Nexus; best battery life ever

By

Following Google's announcement of the Android M at their I/O event, a dev preview of the mobile OS can give hints of the possible features in the upcoming 2015 LG and Huawei Google Nexus devices, set to be released around October-November.

App Ops

In the current developer's preview, the Android M features a system that "looks a lot like App Ops," which was discovered in Android 4.3. Similar to the App Ops, users are enabled to pick an app in the permissions manager and get a list of every permission it has access to together with on-off switches for each. Further, users can also look at apps according to permission types, such as seeing every app that has access to the microphone.

Fingerprint reading

Another feature that the Android M developer preview included was an API for fingerprint reading. This would mean that OEMs can begin putting fingerprint sensors in their devices since the API would definitely be used by developers. Further, it will be applied to authorize payments by Android Pay NFC as well as purchasing applications in Google Play. This could be included in the 2015 LG and Huawei Google Nexus smartphones.

Doze mode

A "Doze" mode was also included in Android M. This feature will shut down background apps while the device is still, making Android's battery life longer by going into a deep sleep overnight. However, it won't turn off when it's in a user's pocket during the day. If the device is left at home, a user can expect to see its battery "relatively full." "Doze" mode will use motion detection to learn if the smartphone is left unattended.

USB C-port and Google Now on Tap

Android M will also support USB-C ports that can "significantly increase battery charging times on Android devices.

Further, the company will use Android M to launch "Google Now on Tap" alongside the assistant API. They are also upgrading Google Wallet into Android Pay.

All these could be included in the upcoming 2015 LG and Huawei Google Nexus devices. Though they are "highly possible," it is better to take these with a grain of salt and wait for Google's official announcement.
