After being in the dark for 25 years, the long wait for the sequel of Chip's Challenge was finally over as Chip's Challenge 2 was finally released last May 28, 2015 on Steam. The first game of the classic puzzle series was released way back in 1989 and it was made available on Steam along with Chip's Challenge 2.
Fans of the series were thrilled to hear the news that Chip's Challenge 2 was finally going to be released on Steam after its extreme delay. With some encouragement from his fans, Chuck Sommerville started creating the sequel to Chip's Challenge several months after its release in 1989. It took him just two years to finish making Chip's Challenge 2 so why was it released just now?
The answer to that is because after making the game, Chuck found out that the trademark of the game had been sold off. The new owners wanted him to cover the expenses for publishing and packaging the game. He could not pay for the costs so he then tried negotiating with the new owners. The negotiations didn't go well though and so the game was put on hold for 20 years. He even said: "When I couldn't release Chip's Challenge 2, it hit me really hard. Not only had I spent two years perfecting it, I also felt I'd let down the fans," Sommerville told PC Gamer. "I generally thought the only way Chip's Challenge 2 was ever going to see the light of day was by having my wife leak it on the net on my death". After trying to make an agreement once more with the trademark holders for almost five years, Chuck Sommerville was finally able give Chip's Challenge 2 to the fans.
Now, everyone can purchase both Chip's Challenge and Chip's Challenge 2 on Steam and enjoy the tile-based puzzle game that will have you playing for hours. Help Chip solve over a hundred game levels in order to finish the challenge from the International Brain Game Club.
