"Tron 3" was expected to be in the works anytime this year but news have made rounds online saying that Disney already pulled the plug in the supposed third installment of the fan-favorite film. Olivia Wilde, who plays the lead role in the film, already confirmed the news.
Olivia Wilde took to her Twitter account and wrote this: "Tron fans! Don't trip. Now I don't have to live on seaweed juice and tofu dust for 6 months to fit into a rubber suit." It has had over 2,000 favorites and was retweeted more than 800 times. It seems that fans are not at all thrilled regarding Wilde's confirmation.
The news about "Tron 3" no longer happening came as a surprise as Wilde and her co-star Garrett Hedlund just announced last April that they will be reprising their roles from the second installment of the film that was out back in 2010 entitled "Tron: Legacy." Reports about the third installment made rounds online saying that the movie will again be directed by Joseph Kosinski and some details about the plot were also revealed.
"Tron 3" was supposed to start production later this year and details about the plug being pulled has not been available to the media yet.
Due to this, an online petition has been signed and was put up on the internet. It has over 25,000 fans of the movie asking Disney to rethink their decision. The petition was kick-started by a fan from New York as it was submitted on Change.org. Disney has not yet officially commented on the petition that has been signed by fans and there is no word if they will be listening to the fans of the movie and change their decision regarding "Tron 3."
An online petition for Disney to continue on with "Tron 3" may or may not be sufficient to bring the movie back into development. Nonetheless, fans of the movie franchise are trying their best to hopefully voice their opinions and hopefully, change the faith of the sci-fi film.
